THE CAPTIVITY MEME

You've been captured -- or maybe you've been held captive for a while now. Whatever the case, you've lost your freedom, and there's a specific person responsible for that. You might be a prisoner, a mental patient, a kidnap victim, or someone's pet. Maybe you're there willingly, or maybe the choice has been taken away from you completely.

Both smut and non-smut scenarios are possible. If you don't want to play smut, please indicate so in the title line of your tag.

1. Leave a tag with your character. Be sure to include any limits on what you are willing to play, as this meme has the potential to be triggering.
2. Someone else tags in and uses RNG to generate a number between 1 and 9 (or pick your favorite). The second character is holding the first character captive now.

1. For their own good. Does this person really think they could make it on their own? It's a big, scary world out there, and you need to protect them from it, whether they like it or not.

2. For the good of society. Forget protecting this person -- it's your duty to protect the world from them! Maybe they committed a terrible crime, or maybe they were falsely condemned, but it's your job to keep them locked up where they can't do any more harm.

3. Because they're not well. How's your bedside manner? Whether you're Florence Nightingale or Mildred Ratched, you're in the position of ministering to the mentally ill. Maybe this person genuinely needs your help, or maybe you're just turning a blind eye to their true sanity.

4. For the money. Higher aims? What higher aims? This person is your meal ticket, and they're staying put until their loved ones pay up.

5. For their love. It might be a case of yandere, or it might be a consenting BDSM relationship. Whether it's by mutual agreement or by force, you're keeping them simply because you love them.

6. Because they're cute and fluffy. Who's a cutesy wutesy? They are! Yes, they are! This person is your pet now. Maybe they're a different species from you, or maybe you just don't care that you're both people. Maybe you're even an alien zookeeper looking after a new acquisition.

7. Because they're your property. Slave? Livestock? Who cares what they think - they're your property, and you decide their fate.

8. For the lulz. Hey, what's a little bondage between friends? You'll let them go, once you're done laughing and snapping photos... maybe.

9. Choose a scenario, or combine several.

"Rekka." She shoots a look at me as if to ask how I get into these kinds of situations. She's got ties for tomorrow's wedding in her hand, and I'm glad once more that I'm not participating that way.

At least the guards have stopped pointing guns at her.

"Sakurada-san was helping me get my gear back. Apparently, Horrors have found their way here."

Her eyes are full of questions, but I know she'll wait until we're home to interrogate me.

"We appreciate any assistance you can give us," I say smoothly when Leo's finished speaking. "Am I correct in assuming you fight, also?"

"I do." There's the undertone of anger that she gets whenever someone asks her the question. "How bad is it?"

Half of the question is directed at me, half of it at Sakurada-san. I wouldn't be surprised if Rekka-san volunteers herself. Any of us would. I shake my head to indicate that I don't know.

"We don't know the full extent of it yet," I say calmly enough. She seems angry. Doesn't matter, as long as she can help, and I appreciate any help. "We're still investigating."

[surprisingwolf]

I see Rekka-san thinking about it, then making a decision. "Then I'll stay here. He has a wedding to go to."

Rekka-san is helping Jabi-san with the whole thing. I'm an observer. There's no reason I should be there. I'm sure I look as confused as I feel. "Rekka-san...."

And then I realize this is Rekka-san's chance to be what she wants to be. I take a deep breath. "I'll go help Jabi-san with the wedding, then, after I get my equipment back."

"You have experience similar to his?" I ask bluntly. No point in her staying if she's a neophyte. Possibly, however, she's more experienced than Leo, in which case I would have no objection.

Oh, he should go to the wedding, certainly, but if we're to have a replacement, I'd prefer someone at least at his level.

I don't work often with Rekka-san, but I know her temper and I know her abilities, and I know what not to say to her. Sakurada-san doesn't have the same experience.

"We're about the same age and trained at the same time, what do you think?" she snaps.

I think of what to add to her words, and add a simple, "We both started training as little kids."

I take a step back at the force of her words, and very nearly ask if she needs to stock up on her sweets, but she's not Youko-chan.

Okay, then.

"Good," I offer, uncertain what to say that won't get my head kicked off.

"Then that's settled." She crosses her arms. "You'll return his eqipment, he'll leave."

I wince quietly. I hope Sakurada-san doesn't expel us both.

Oh, she's cranky.

I'm used to cranky, though my wariness ratchets up a few notches. "We will, yes," I say, watching her eyes.

I can tell Rekka-san's going to have problems dealing with the EMC people, from what I know of their ways. But I know that it's up to her. She sometimes has tact.

As we start walking again, I quietly tell Sakurada-san, "Rekka-san knows what she's doing. We just aren't raised to be... nice to those we're saving."

I shrug. "I'm constantly told I'm too blunt. I prefer people who tell me exactly what they think."

*Randomly awake*

Maybe Rekka-san would be better at this assignment than I would. She's perfectly capable of hunting any Horror that doesn't require a Knight to subdue.

"Then you and Rekka-san will get along fine." I'm sure if I put in a word that they'll leave her to do this. Maybe they'll send me or somebody else back with supplies.

"If she hits me and yells at me, I'll manage," I say wryly. "I am accustomed to that from women, also."

[surprisingwolf]

I have to boggle at that for moment. "You're not married?"

[red_pleather]

"Definitely not," I say more firmly than I'd meant to. "Uh, I mean, no, I'm not. Why?"

[surprisingwolf]

"Well... never mind." I shake my head. It's none of my business. I think of how I ended up in his bed the first time, thinking he was sharing it with a Ryuu and blush a little. "Co-worker? Friend?"

"Both," I say, still wondering at the look on his face. "Yellow Buster. She can be a little tempestuous."

[surprisingwolf]

I nod. I'm not going to pry, and I'm too embarrassed to ask anything further. So I watch Rekka-san and hope that nothing else happens.

"Not going to marry her," I say fervently. She wouldn't want me to, anyway.

[surprisingwolf]

I may have stepped a little too far. "Ah."

I hope that we reach base again soon. I'd like to leave, and I'm sure it shows in my face.

Things just got awkward and I'm not entirely sure why.


I gesture him ahead of me into the not so secret entrance behind a shop. It's not hidden, exactly, but people don't really know that it goes to our underground base instead of to maintenance corridors.

Sakurada-san drops the subject, which I'm grateful for as I'm sure I've confused him. And myself.

He gestures me into a hallway, and I walk in ahead of him. I know Rekka-san's somewhere behind me, and I'm sure the guards are behind her. All I can think of is getting my gear and getting back home.

"It'll all be all right, Leo," I say calmly. "Don't worry. Between us, we'll take care of everything."

Nearly there.

"I know," I tell him. I trust Sakurada-san, and I know that Rekka will do whatever she needs to do.

Something just leaves me uneasy, and I'm sure it's not from my verbal stumbling a few minutes ago.
