...I should probably rig a charger for his cellphone, except I don't know how. Mundane technology is not my strong point.

"What did I look like?" I ask. I can start doing research if I can get a good enough description.

"Big. And red. Kind of like a wolf? Except it had this huge mouth." I use my fingers to open up my own mouth as far as I can, so he can get an idea. "'ike dis."

I try to think of what it could be and come up blank. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a shapechanger. "Did it look organic, like a living being?"

"Y-yeah. It had fur and everything." You know, he's asking a lot of very pointed questions, like he wants specific information. "Hey. Have you ever seen these monsters before?"

"I don't think I've seen that one before," I tell him absently. Something in me is telling me that this might not be a great idea, being so open, but the rest of me is wondering what is controlling his father.

"Before, hunh?" I lean in, because this conversation is starting to get pretty damn weird, and to be honest, I don't like how that waiter is eying us. "How many have you seen?" Because if he knows more about these monsters, I wanna know. Maybe I can figure out how to stop it, or even kill it.

"Um...." The waiter is eyeing us strangely. Which is to be expected, given that our conversation has to be... odd.

I might not be the most social, but I do know a lot more cues than anybody thinks.

"Are you done with dessert?" I manage.

I promptly down the now liquid remains of my ice cream. "Now I am. Let's go."

I nod, absently making sure that I pay for our desserts before ushering him out.

I try to figure out how to explain things without explaining things. "It's a long story. But I'd like to know where you lived."
