[dropping to one knee next to you and gathering you up carefully, pushing your hair back]

Shh, it's all right. [just sitting down next to you and pulling you up and half into his lap, curled against his shoulder as he loops his arms around your waist]

What were you doing?

[Winces, but hand push you away just yet, and doesn't really want to either]

I'm a Zangyack Special Forces officer. What does it look like I'm doing?

It looks like you're hurting yourself. Come on, let's get you patched up. [shifting to half-lift you to your feet, his arm around you as he starts to walk you back to his cabin]

[Moving with you, staggering to his feet and holding a breath as he tried to steady himself.

Although after the first few steps he reaches up and starts to nudge you away]

I don't want your help.

[he looks a little like you stabbed him, reaching up and nearly touching your face before he curls his fingers into his palm, his throat tightening]

When I said I was worried [his voice a little choked] it wasn't because I didn't think you were strong enough. It was because I didn't want you to be reprimanded or punished because I wasn't discreet enough. ...this is my fault, not yours.

[Listening, while shakily standing. Shakes his head slowly afterward, looking towards the floor]

I know the risks. I knew what could happen. You were still worth it to me.

[now he does reach out, brushing your hair softly away from your face before he cups your cheek]

Come on. I have a kit in my room. You have injuries you can't take care of on your own. [not taking no for an answer, this time, steering you out and down the corridor]

[Well it's not like I can make it on my own anyway so I guess I'll accept it.]

[closing his cabin door behind then and locking it, then tugging you gently out of the top half of your uniform before he starts to dress your injuries, working in silence until you're mostly patched up. then he takes a warm damp rag in one hand and your chin in the other, wiping the blood carefully off your face, his own very close]

I'm sorry. [his voice low, his breath warm on your cheek]

[Also staying silent, not meeting your gaze or even looking at you for most of it. Even with the rag he tried to keep his eyes down or away. That breath though sent a shiver over him. He let out an annoyed breath and tried to turn away, not okay with the butterflies forming in his stomach.]

For what?

...I thought I was helping you. [dabs gently at the corner of your mouth, his own lip catching between his teeth] I wanted to protect you. That was... arrogant of me. I should have considered your feelings also.

[he finishes wiping the blood from your mouth and can't help himself from leaning in, his parted lips almost touching yours before he hesitates and draws back again, swallowing hard]

I'm sorry. I still care about you, very much, but I understand if you're angry with me--you have every right to be. I won't keep you here if you wish to leave, no matter how much I'd like you to stay.

[His breath held at the closeness, but released when you drew back. His eyes stayed away as he thought, his hand grabbing helplessly at the hem of his pants]

[He had to swallow first, turning his head away more and taking a few breaths, pushing down the fear of saying what he wanted]

I'm..I'm not-- not leaving.

[his voice a little breathless as he leans in and touches his mouth to yours, his lips warm and soft. his fingers stroke your cheek, but he doesn't touch you anywhere but the gentle press of his lips]

[pressing back just slightly, not moving into it. He was much more focused on calming down and just breathing.]

[draws back after a moment, closing his eyes and swallowing hard]

...you're tired, and injured. You should rest. [he can't keep his fingers out of your hair, though, just smoothing it out of your face carefully, his fingertips brushing your cheek]

I can deal with it. . . I've missed you.

[Keeping his eyes watching you, but relaxing so much over those careful and gentle touches.]

Come here. [gently, settling back where his bed meets the wall and drawing you in against him, wrapping his arms around you as one hand comes up to smooth against your hair]

I should've known you'd be stronger than I am about this. [almost ruefully, his thumb smoothing over your temple] ...I've missed you too. Very much.
