[She hadn't noticed him -- of course not, when you're not the one observing the compromising situation you tend not to notice anything else. So there isn't any awkwardness in her knocking gently on the side of the bumper for his attention, at least not on her end, leaning against the truck as she speaks.]

You know, Flynn, if you don't come up for air soon people are going to start wondering just how close you are to this thing.

[It wasn't the knock but who spoke that caused Flynn to jerk and hit his head against the bottom of the truck. There was a string Gaelic curses, followed by a deep breath before he rolled out with as cheery a smile he could manage on his face.]

What's wrong with wanting to get a little work done? Did ye need something Summer?

[Summer winces on his behalf; she can't speak Gaelic but the notion isn't hard to follow after a thud like that.] No, I was just making sure you were alive down there.

You alright?

I'm fine. [Said waaaaaay too fast and eagerly.] What makes ye think something's wrong? I'm working on my truck, it's what a mechanic does!

[Slowly:] Mechanics can get concussions from hitting their heads too.

Of course, now that you've put it that way, maybe I ought to be asking what else is wrong.

[Damn, she had him there]

[Fiddles with the wrench in his hands]

It's nothing, Summer, honest. Just working through some thoughts, that's all.

[She's not quite buying that, watching him fiddle with the wrench for a few seconds.]

It's not nothing. Whatever it is, you can talk to me, you know.

And there's the rub, isn't it. [He laughs, sadly] It's not something I think you would want to hear. Let's just save us both the embarrassment, aye?

[That actually stings a little, somehow, and it might show on her face.] Why would you think that?

If it's bothering you that much, of course I want to hear it. If I can help, I want to. That's what friends do, isn't it?

[And he had to go and hurt her. Good Job Flynn, that's the last thing he ever wanted to do.]

[He sighs and closes his eyes, hoping he didn't sound as jealous and resigned as he felt.]

I saw ye and Scott last night.

[There are a couple of seconds of noiseless mouthing before she manages to say something -- not much, but it's a little more intelligent than imitating a goldfish.]

O-Oh! That's ... I didn't know that.

[He tries not to make anything of her struggle to say anything. He opens his eyes, the double meaning no doubt in his eyes.]

And I didn't want you too. Scott's a good guy. I'm happy for you both.

[It's hard not to feel a little guilty, given the circumstances.]

Flynn, listen ... we weren't trying to keep that quiet because we wanted to hurt anybody, we were just trying not to complicate things.

[He smiles, genuinely.]

I know. I understand, I do. Not something that's easy to bring up living in close quarter either, is it? An' I won't tell any of the others.

[It still hurts though. He can't help it, but he'll live. He is glad for the fact his two best friends are happy.]

Well, I don't know about any of the others now, but Dr. K already knows ... she wasn't exactly pleased, since she thinks it's a distraction.

That's sort of why we decided to keep it to ourselves.

Why am I not surprised the Doc knows already. She knows when anyone scratches their nose around here. But a distraction? That's a little harsh...

[if anything, Flynn was probably more distracted then they were]

She seems to think it'll make us prioritize each other over the mission, and distract everyone else by doing it. Or ... something like that.

[She likes Dr. K -- very much, actually -- but when she gets started it can be hard for anyone to follow.]

Aye, like Dillon and Ziggy don't do that already. Or Gem and Gemma. Neither of ye are as bad as them so I don't think you will have anything to worry about.

Frankly, neither do we, but if it'll prove the point to her, we'll just try not to make a point to mention it and see what happens.

And if it goes public later, you get to say you knew before the others, so there's that.

So...I guess I'll be getting back to my truck then an' let ye get back to Scott.

As long as you try not to give yourself a concussion under there.
