"I only meant I had to tell someone before I left this world, it's kind of an unwritten rule, Sanjou-san," I gabble in protest.

"Smooth, Ryouga. And soon you'lll have to deal with two mes glaring at you, judging you." Honestly, why didn't he call Ranru? Or Emiri?

They better both still be alive in this world.

I swallow.

"Well, you'd want your version of me to tell you, right?" I protest.

I just barely resist the urge to elbow him. "Well, I can't do that, because your other version was about as smart as you are he-- he's gone." He's dead, and it's all my fault. "Which why I need you, but do you really think this other Yukito will allow that?!"

"Your me died?" I say with great surprise. "How?"

I'm ignoring his other question for now. There's only so much I can process at once.

I make a fist, but then decide otherwise. "Trying to save Mai and me." Which I will never, ever forgive him for. Fool. He should've left me there, and just focus on Mai. "And we need your specific powers to stop Asuka." Asuka, who's gone way too far to save Mahoro.

Crap crap crap crap crap I'll have to go.

"How long?" I ask swiftly. I need to leave a message for Sanjou-san and the others, and I can't leave my Mai-chan alone for days.

"Until we can stop Asuka," I say matter of factly. "Obviously."

Part of me wants to keep him forever, even if he is as annoying and foolish and painfully caring as I remember him, but I keep that down.

[swallows]

[calls Sanjou-san, and Ranru-chan, and Emi-pon]

Let's go.

"Humph." I turn on my heel, hiding the relief that the me in this world has yet to show up. Perhaps he's growing complacent. "You better come, because I'm leaving now." I step into the portal.

The portal shimmers around him. I take a look around, wondering how soon I'll see this place again, then I go after.

I have to come back *soon*. I can't leave Mai-chan alone.

Footfalls. Which means he really did come with me rather than running the other direction the instant my back was turned.

"Stay close. Grunts may be patrolling the area right now." It's about that time. "Mai's in a bunker north of here."

"A bunker?" I jolt, grabbing his arm as we walk. "What *happened* here?"
