It's summertime! Out with the snow and the dark, here come the sun and sea, watermelons and slushies, long lazy days, and all the things that make summer wonderful.

Along with a few other things.

Honestly, your character loves summer. How can they not? They don't mean to spoil the fun. They could've been having a grand old time right now, if it weren't for...

1. The heat! No kidding, hot in summer? Who would've thought. The AC broke and the fan just can't keep up. What to do? Why, complain, of course.

2. The bugs! EEK! It's cockroach season! Or possibly the invasion of the bloodsucking horde. Pick up a shoe and join the defending army.

3. Allergies! You know what's nice about the bare trees in winter? They're bare. Is it September yet?

4. Those meddling kids! Some of us don't get summer vacation no more, you little bastards. Stop partying at all hours!

5. The crowds! The beach was a lot nicer when you didn't have to share it with approximately twenty two billion other people. Some of them in wildly unflattering swimsuits.

6. That one unbearably cheerful friend who thinks summer is really just the best thing and they will prove it to you if they must shove a gallon of ice cream down your screaming mouth.

7. Or something else equally annoying and horrid, because fuck summer.

"Hello?" He's standing in front of something I have to look at. Maybe I can get him to move... far away, preferably.

"Oh, hi!" I have no idea who this person is, but he seems cheerful enough. I grin squintily at him. "Isn't it a great day?"

"It's a wonderful day," I say absently. It's too busy for work, with these crowds. At least figuring out if someone's been carving into that rock behind him.

I think he's trying to look around me! I'll turn and look too. But there's only a rock wall behind me. Maybe he's feeling dehydrated and it's making him tip side to side? He does sound a bit vague. And that would explain his side-to-side motion and the dilation of his pupils, like he's having difficulty specifying the focal depth he needs.

I reach forward and put the back of my hand to his forehead. "Are you feeling alright, sir? You sound a bit faint. The heat is rather intense today, perhaps you should sit down in the shade if you're feeling unbalanced!"

"Sit where?" I echo. The beach is full. There's no shade. And besides, I'm fine.

"Anywhere you can rest yourself is a great place to sit," I say, thinking that I sound a lot like Eiji-kun right now. "And we can borrow someone's umbrella to give you shade! Heatstroke is serious business."

"I don't have heatstroke." I know a bit about health conditions. "If you don't mind, I'll lean against that rock, where you are?"

"Oh of course!"

I scoot aside. He's so polite.

I lean against the wall. I'll examine it when I have a chance, which is when the man isn't standing right there, expecting me to collapse any moment. "Thank you," I tell him, when a pattern to my left catches my eye.

He really does seem to be having problems focusing his eyes at the proper depth. Right now he's drifting off past my right shoulder, instead of looking at my face.

"You're welcome!" I'll keep an eye on him, just to make sure. Lots of people are too stubborn to take care of themselves like they should.

I sneeze.

Hm. Was someone talking about me?

He's distracted. I'll use the time to slip away, before he gets back to paying attention again. There are some rocks down the way that have the same pattern, at least.
