I hadn't seen the attack coming. My mistake. I should have been keeping a better eye out, but I was late for school, and my headache was already at a dull roar. I could barely focus to keep my steps even and measured, I wasn't exactly keeping an eye out for Sakuta-s.... Aries.

He could have killed me if he'd wanted, so I guess it's some small comfort that I'm still alive, despite my slowly blackening eye, possibly broken arm, and the blood flowing pretty freely from what feels like a very nasty gash on the back of my head. Scattered other smaller injuries too, minor scrapes and bruises.

My vision is too blurry to focus, and I think if I try and stand I may be sick. Clutching my injured arm to my chest, I reach carefully for Nuggegyroika with my free hand, opening the box, the Tsunuggets hop out, hovering for a moment.

"Find Yuuki. Or Kisaragi. Please."

They float off, and I exhale shakily. I know I should try and stay alert and focused, because I probably have a concussion, by my eyes feel so heavy...

Scenarios (You can use RNG to choose for you, or pick yourself)

1. Trapped outside your house: Maybe that super-duper, ultra-fancy security system with the ridiculously long passcode that can only be opened from the inside wasn't such a good idea, was it? And does that look like rain to you? Oh yeah, you're right. It looks more like hail.

2. Trapped in your house: You've locked yourself in, you're on house arrest, or you don't want to lock yourself out by leaving. Maybe you're not even at your house. Maybe you're trapped in someone else's house, at a party, or by a bet, or a robbery gone wrong. Just find a way out before you start shooting the walls out of boredom.

3. Lost: You're not trapped, you're more... lost. Yeah, if you could find that object of your desire you could get out of this hellhole. Unfortunately, the powers that be won't allow that. So continues the quest for the holy grail. Though, it doesn't help that you have to go to the bathroom, your friend's goldfish is dying, and that big screen Plasma TV is getting heavier by the second.

4. Waiting: Whether it be a long line, a car ride, or god forbid, the dreaded doctor's waiting room, ain't no getting out of this one.

5. Self-imposed lockdown: Before you can rejoin society, you have to get all that demon blood out of your system or get over that addiction. Or perhaps it's more crack-worthy. WE'RE NOT LEAVING UNTIL THAT FLY IS DEAD/THAT PEN IS FOUND/OUR DIRTY SECRETS ARE OUT IN THE OPEN. AND IF WE CAN'T DO IT, OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDEN WILL DO IT!

6. You're literally trapped: Maybe your head is stuck between two bars or you're stuck in a window. Point is, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Metaphorically, of course. Or maybe you actually are, I don't know.

7. Oh, here's the metaphorical one: You just go through the motions everyday, you watch everyone else live their lives, and that rut just gets bigger and deeper. What to do?

8. Trapped in an elevator: We just couldn't take the stairs, could we?

9. Trapped in a crowd: Maybe you're on a packed train or just a hallway where everyone has stopped walking and created a bottle neck. Or maybe you ended up in the middle of a mosh pit. Hope the person next to you is wearing deodorant.

10. Choose your own hellhole!

there's no place in the light for us, and the light changes direction constantly. its rays are too harsh for losers like us. I have to find some way to spare us.

I hand him a barely-lukewarm styrofoam container of ramen. it's more than we deserve, but better to eat than starve for someone to find us and judge us or laugh at him. I sit down next to him and open my own meager dinner. ]

It's summertime! Out with the snow and the dark, here come the sun and sea, watermelons and slushies, long lazy days, and all the things that make summer wonderful.

Along with a few other things.

Honestly, your character loves summer. How can they not? They don't mean to spoil the fun. They could've been having a grand old time right now, if it weren't for...

1. The heat! No kidding, hot in summer? Who would've thought. The AC broke and the fan just can't keep up. What to do? Why, complain, of course.

2. The bugs! EEK! It's cockroach season! Or possibly the invasion of the bloodsucking horde. Pick up a shoe and join the defending army.

3. Allergies! You know what's nice about the bare trees in winter? They're bare. Is it September yet?

4. Those meddling kids! Some of us don't get summer vacation no more, you little bastards. Stop partying at all hours!

5. The crowds! The beach was a lot nicer when you didn't have to share it with approximately twenty two billion other people. Some of them in wildly unflattering swimsuits.

6. That one unbearably cheerful friend who thinks summer is really just the best thing and they will prove it to you if they must shove a gallon of ice cream down your screaming mouth.

7. Or something else equally annoying and horrid, because fuck summer.

My belt is not as amazingly elaborate as I had always hoped and dreamed. But it has such super awesome cool abilities, and unlike a certain group of, ugh, Sentai Otaku, I can totally explore this supposed 'delusion' (as if it could be anything but MY REAL REALITY AT LAST) without being transformed.

Which is awesome.

I am going to save this world.

I don't know how long it's supposed to take to get a Last One. I know it's different for everyone, and that something... something specific to each person, I think, has to push it that far. And then... then, if you're lucky, evolution.

Then, if I'm lucky, I can save Jirou.

I've used the switch a few times now, once just to try it out, and twice now with a purpose. Each time I use it I feel myself slipping more and more.

No, that's not it. Not really, I'm not slipping so much as adapting. Making myself ready to evolve.

Everything is gaining clarity.

I have to fix things. I have to make sure people understand. I have to show others how to be proper friends, that includes Gentarou and his merry band. You can't just... can't just say you're friends and then be friends. There's more to it than that.

You have to be willing to die. To kill. To go to the edge and back for them.

This school is full of fakes, and I'm going to fix them. I'm going to fix them until I find my perfect evolution. And then I'm going to save my friend.

Like a best friend would.

It's been a long but productive day of information gathering and moving in. The house that Akiko managed to rent for us is actually pretty nice, with plenty of space an entire room full of whiteboards for Philip. I have no idea why a house would have that many whiteboards, but I certainly can't complain. At least we won't lose our security deposit because Philip had to resort to writing on the walls.

I remember the number of business cards I handed out today and pull out my phone, just in case. Definitely don't want to miss a call if it comes in. There's a lot going on in this town, and I've got a feeling we're going to be here for a long while until it's all settled.

In the meantime...I kick my feet up on my desk, lean back in my chair, and place my hat over my face. Time for a nap.

People are just about beginning to recover from the rakugo club's last performance. It's time I gave my audience a little more. I'm already planning another Hell's Open Mic, but today I'm hanging around in the cafeteria, looking for anyone who might like to play with me.

I know that six people intended to evolve into Horoscopes are still out there. But I don't see why I shouldn't continue talent spotting. I've already found an Aries and a Leo far superior to those originally lined up for the role. Although our leader has promised my security, I don't believe there is honour among rogues; and one Tatsugami-san has been making it known that he isn't very happy with me. I can't think why. Perhaps a certain feline friend of mine could convince him to see things another way.

At the moment, I'm sitting in the midst of a table of first-years, entertaining them with puns and asking if they'd like to play a game. Whoever said there is no such thing as a free lunch was wrong. I'm enjoying one right now.

Everyone's right. I have to learn to defend myself, with magic or otherwise, because I'm still a target. Plus, it would be nice if I didn't accidentally set off the sprinkler system like I did a few days ago. Even if the school attributes it to a "fault in the system", I know I that I was the one at fault.

So, that's why I'm here with my bokken, waiting for my partner to show up.

Amanogawa High School.

Not my first choice as far as first school to teach at goes, but considering my other 'job' it's probably the one where I'll be needed the most. I actually find it sort of amazing that the school is still running, let alone keeping the regular attacks on the students and faculty a secret. I only know about it from Ein and Zwein's careful surveillance from Beet-Vizor.

It's been almost six years since I've seen them in person - about as long as it's been since I've seen Gordo and Patora, but I assume America isn't as dull as being in space - I hope they're not lonely up there in orbit by themselves. I wish I could see them once in a while, but then, I barely see Takuto anymore with all his traveling, and Ad's taken to wandering in recent years too.

Stop that, Kane, I stop in my steps to breathe in and out and shake my head to clear it, get my focus back. It won't do to go and get all weepy on your first day of proper teaching.

I push my glasses up my nose and fix the sleeves of my jacket. Ad was supposed to be joining me here soon, I won't be completely alone for much longer.

There are also fellow teachers and my new students to get to know. Not to mention I have to keep my eyes open for signs of the dark forces at work here. Lots of things to keep my mind busy.

I'm feeling worlds better, proper rest and lots of vitamins will do that, it seems. I should probably feel bad about getting Gibken sick though, I hear he got it even worse than me. I'm trying, to feel bad that is, but despite general 'oh, that sucks' feelings I can't bring myself to care as much as I probably should.

I do wonder vaguely if he's better, maybe he'll be on the moon, a full fledged member of the Kamen Rider Club thanks to Kisaragi's abundant enthusiasm.

Rabbit Hutch is actually empty when I get there, even Utahoshi's little private area is devoid of activity. It's been a long time since the place has been so quiet, and I smile to myself, tossing my bag down on the table and sitting.

Might as well get some studying in while it's still quiet enough to hear myself think.

Not that I'm not beginning to love my family (because I am, that is, I do, that is, I've finally reached the point where I'm fairly certain they're not going to kick me to the curb if something strange happens, or someone gets hurt, or anything).

It's just... my luck that when a family finally takes me in, cares about me, supports my education and wants me to go to the best school in the district, why am I not surprised that it's also the School of Weekly Monster Attacks?

Maybe I should look into the Kamen Rider Club after all.
