[Rescue Fire/Gaia fusion] For Tatsuya

He wasn't going to pace. He was going to wait patiently for Tatsuya to arrive, not give in to nerves before he'd even got there. So what if they had a lot to talk about, that was no reason to be nervous.

Yeah, right. They had over ten years worth of stuff to catch up on and it wasn't exactly all sunshine and rainbows.

He glanced down at his watch and sighed. Come on, Tatsuya.

"Hey! What's the big--"

Power failure. Damn it. He looked around but there were no back-up lights coming on and there were plenty of people sounding freaked out.

Including Tatsuya. He did a double take at the 'Katsumi-chan'; he hadn't been called that in years.

"Yeah?" he asked, reaching out to satisfy himself that Tatsuya was still next to him.

Tatsuya fumbled around for his brother, and grabbed onto Katsumi's hand in the dark, "Now we're gonna have to play again - hope they'll give us our money back." His fingers closed around Katsumi's palm.

"I don't think they're that generous."

He squeezed Tatsuya's hand lightly. Had he always been afraid of the dark? He was pretty sure he hadn't been, but that was a long time ago, maybe he was wrong.

"It's not our fault the power went out." Tatsuya grumbled to himself for a moment or two and then went on "... why are we holding hands?"

Katsumi let go hurriedly, clearing his throat and stuffing his hands into his pockets. Okay, maybe he'd been wrong, after all.

"At least we don't have to start evacuating anyone," he said in an attempt to change the subject.

"Why would we do that?" There was silence for a moment or two before Tatsuya added "I was going to win."

"That's why I said we didn't have to." Obviously. "And you were not, I was definitely going to win."

[fire1]

"You weren't. And we wouldn't evacuate people just for a power cut." Tatsuya adopted the sing-song tone with which he had made fun of Katsumi when they were children, "silly Katsumi-chan ..."

"Shut up." Katsumi shoved his shoulder none too gently. "Cut that out."

That voice had always driven him nuts and Tatsuya knew it.

"And you only wish I wasn't."

Tatsuya shoved back, "Yes I was. That's why you're so grumpy." All the same he petted Katsumi's shoulder, "and I'll beat you when the lights come back on."

[hotshotlightning]

"Yeah, right. And I'm not grumpy."

He scowled and leant back against the machine, almost overbalancing when it was a little further back than he'd thought.

"How long are things even going to be off for?"

"Until it gets fixed -" Tatsuya began, but then the lights came back on, "see? Grumpy."

There were sighs of relief around the room as the lights came back on and Katsumi relaxed a litle.

"I am not grumpy."

[fire1]

"Yeah you are. Katsumi-chan." Before Katsumi could argue Tatsuya had already rummaged around and found more loose change with which to feed the machine.

[hotshotlightning]

"What's with all the 'Katsumi-chan'?" he asked, turning back round to the machine. "I'm not a child anymore. Neither of us are."

Tatsuya shrugged, "it's what I always used to call you. And then you got all upset. Like this." He did a perfect imitation of Katsumi sulking; but then grinned, "seems like nothing's changed."

Katsumi gave him an outraged look,about to retort that he didn't react like that at all... only to realise that, well, he kind of did and he grinned ruefully. "I guess not."

Tatsuya threw another coin into the slot, "c'mon! You have to play me again. Or are you scared I'll beat you?"

Katsumi snorted. Yeah, right. "In your dreams. Move over, I can't get at the controls here, you're blocking everything."

[fire1]

Tatsuya shifted over obligingly and made haste to create his player character before Katsumi could get to it, "You're scared."

[hotshotlightning]

"I think you're the one who's scared, considering you keep bringing it up."

He flipped through the character possibilities rapidly: Tatsuya already had a start on that, after all.

"Hurry up." Tatsuya folded his arms, "I only brought it up because YOU are lying about it."

Katsumi looked up at the ceiling in theatrical despair. "Is there no end to his delusions?"

He finished his selections and looked over at Tatsuya. "I'm done, stop whining already."

"You're such a drama queen!" Tatsuya stuck his tongue out at Katsumi and pressed to start the game.

Katsumi's jaw dropped in pure outrage. "I am not."

Before he could demand that Tatsuya take that back right the hell now, Tatsuya hit start and he had to drop it to focus on the game.
