Amanogawa High School.

Not my first choice as far as first school to teach at goes, but considering my other 'job' it's probably the one where I'll be needed the most. I actually find it sort of amazing that the school is still running, let alone keeping the regular attacks on the students and faculty a secret. I only know about it from Ein and Zwein's careful surveillance from Beet-Vizor.

It's been almost six years since I've seen them in person - about as long as it's been since I've seen Gordo and Patora, but I assume America isn't as dull as being in space - I hope they're not lonely up there in orbit by themselves. I wish I could see them once in a while, but then, I barely see Takuto anymore with all his traveling, and Ad's taken to wandering in recent years too.

Stop that, Kane, I stop in my steps to breathe in and out and shake my head to clear it, get my focus back. It won't do to go and get all weepy on your first day of proper teaching.

I push my glasses up my nose and fix the sleeves of my jacket. Ad was supposed to be joining me here soon, I won't be completely alone for much longer.

There are also fellow teachers and my new students to get to know. Not to mention I have to keep my eyes open for signs of the dark forces at work here. Lots of things to keep my mind busy.

I'm alone for once, without my brother or Mio around. Not to mention a certain over-enthusiastic classmate who thinks I should be dating Kaoru-san.

I don't recognize this teacher, but I don't know every teacher in this school. I bow at her slightly as I go by, mind intent on heading to the engineering lab before I make my way to class.

"Yo, sensei!" I say companionably, throwing an arm around his shoulders as he walks. "Kisaragi Gentarou! Nice to meet you!"

"New teacher!" I hiss excitedly at Leo, in my special secret quiet hiss that can probably only be heard in the nearest district.

I tap on my steering wheel idly, waiting for Go to come back out of the school. Why does he always get these calls on his day off, damn it?

I barely control a wince. "Good morning, Gentaro-san," I tell him. "I wonder what she teaches?"

I frown as I leave the school yet again. I could swear something's going on in there, but somehow I never seem to find anything. Maybe next time.

I hate doing these things, I really do. Especially since it's my day off. I never FIND anything at this school.

Ah, there's a new guy. "Sensei? Do you have a moment?"

*beams at you*

"How'd it go?" I ask he walks over. Hmmm, he looks confused, I wonder why.

I scratch my head. "I -- I don't think it went very well?" I tell him in a bewildered sort of way. Why don't I remember?

"Morning, Leo!" I say cheerfully. "She? Who she? She where?"

I know the feeling. >.> Also O:)

"You don't sound too sure about that," I say dryly, leaning back in my seat. "What happened? Got no-one to talk to or anything?"

He usually manages to get something, it's weird that he's so unsure.

"Um... The new teacher?" How does he manage school each day?

*shakes fist* *hugs* *shakes fist again*

I turn to look back at the school, reliving the sense memory of walking into the headmaster's office. Then... then nothing. "There were people there. I'm sure of it," I say. "I think."

(I'm so sorry, it's just too much fun)

I look at the new teacher, then look around. "There's *another* new teacher? Cool, two in one day?"

"You think?" My eyebrows shoot up at that. I do not like this. "Go, what happened in there?"

(I should not post when my brain is somewhere else)

I look again. "Oh." I swear that Gentaro has his own reality-warping field that makes it impossible to see things as they really are. "Sorry. Nevermind." New teacher is a guy. Must remember that.

I brush away from Gentaro, hoping that thingsstop being so topsy-turvy.

I return the bows students and fellow teachers give me, doing my best to blend and attract as little attention as possible. I want to get settled in before I start making contacts here. Get my feet steadied.

This plan is quickly ruined as a student - he's obviously a student from his manner of dress, even if it isn't to code, but my word is he tall - throws his arm around my shoulders and greets me like we're old friends.

"Ah," I fumble in my steps and over my words for a moment, bowing my head and fussing with my glasses for a moment. "I-it's nice to meet you, Kisaragi-kun. I'm Lucano-sensei, the new history teacher."

It may seems strange for an alien from the future that's only been living on Earth and in this timeline for six years to be teaching this planet's history, but I found I quite had a passion for it. Such fascinating events in so sort of time! It's no wonder Shark Taishou fell in love with it.

It takes me a moment to realize I'm being addressed, still not used to being called Sensei, but once I do I turn on my heel, blinking and glancing around.

"Me?" I point to myself, then clear my throat when I realize, yes, this man is talking to me. I bow respectfully. "Lucano-sensei, how may I help you?"

(*laughing* You are so cute, I only know 'cos I know the canon a bit - same actor as OOO's Ankh)

"Heyyyyy, don't run away!" I say brightly. "I spoke to Kaoru."

I rock back and forth on my feet, hands in my pockets, grinning.

"You too, Lucano-sensei!" I say cheerfully, letting go of him. "I can tell we're going to be friends. History, eh? You don't look old enough! You don't look over fifty, even!"

(My day was that kind of day)

Do I want to know? I really don't want to know. This is Kisargi Gentaro, after all. I'm afraid of what he said to her and I hope I'm not going lightheaded. It would not be a good thing to faint.

He looks really worried, and I don't want him to be worried, but I can't pin it down. I want to just forget about it, because surely everything went fine otherwise I'd still be in there? But the expression on his face is making it impossible to forget.

I shake my head at last, in defeat. "I don't know."

Gentarou-kun invited me for lunch, so I signed in at the office and now I'm wandering into the school.

"Hey, Ankh," I say affectionately as I pass him.

...

I stop, jaw down to my knees, and take two steps back. "Ankh?"

"How can you not know?" I demand, torn between glaring at him for being so obtuse and checking him over for any sign of, I don't know, concussion.

I reach out and tilt his head forward, exploring gently for any bumps that might explain this. Although what he's doing getting concussions in a school is beyond me.
