Amanogawa High School.

Not my first choice as far as first school to teach at goes, but considering my other 'job' it's probably the one where I'll be needed the most. I actually find it sort of amazing that the school is still running, let alone keeping the regular attacks on the students and faculty a secret. I only know about it from Ein and Zwein's careful surveillance from Beet-Vizor.

It's been almost six years since I've seen them in person - about as long as it's been since I've seen Gordo and Patora, but I assume America isn't as dull as being in space - I hope they're not lonely up there in orbit by themselves. I wish I could see them once in a while, but then, I barely see Takuto anymore with all his traveling, and Ad's taken to wandering in recent years too.

Stop that, Kane, I stop in my steps to breathe in and out and shake my head to clear it, get my focus back. It won't do to go and get all weepy on your first day of proper teaching.

I push my glasses up my nose and fix the sleeves of my jacket. Ad was supposed to be joining me here soon, I won't be completely alone for much longer.

There are also fellow teachers and my new students to get to know. Not to mention I have to keep my eyes open for signs of the dark forces at work here. Lots of things to keep my mind busy.

I'm alone for once, without my brother or Mio around. Not to mention a certain over-enthusiastic classmate who thinks I should be dating Kaoru-san.

I don't recognize this teacher, but I don't know every teacher in this school. I bow at her slightly as I go by, mind intent on heading to the engineering lab before I make my way to class.

"New teacher!" I hiss excitedly at Leo, in my special secret quiet hiss that can probably only be heard in the nearest district.

I barely control a wince. "Good morning, Gentaro-san," I tell him. "I wonder what she teaches?"

[uchuukitaa]

"Morning, Leo!" I say cheerfully. "She? Who she? She where?"

"Um... The new teacher?" How does he manage school each day?

[uchuukitaa]

"Yo, sensei!" I say companionably, throwing an arm around his shoulders as he walks. "Kisaragi Gentarou! Nice to meet you!"

I return the bows students and fellow teachers give me, doing my best to blend and attract as little attention as possible. I want to get settled in before I start making contacts here. Get my feet steadied.

This plan is quickly ruined as a student - he's obviously a student from his manner of dress, even if it isn't to code, but my word is he tall - throws his arm around my shoulders and greets me like we're old friends.

"Ah," I fumble in my steps and over my words for a moment, bowing my head and fussing with my glasses for a moment. "I-it's nice to meet you, Kisaragi-kun. I'm Lucano-sensei, the new history teacher."

It may seems strange for an alien from the future that's only been living on Earth and in this timeline for six years to be teaching this planet's history, but I found I quite had a passion for it. Such fascinating events in so sort of time! It's no wonder Shark Taishou fell in love with it.

[uchuukitaa]

"You too, Lucano-sensei!" I say cheerfully, letting go of him. "I can tell we're going to be friends. History, eh? You don't look old enough! You don't look over fifty, even!"

This Kisaragi Gentarou certainly is cheerful; perhaps teaching here won't be all doom and gloom all the time.

I give him a little laugh at his assessment of my age. "Well, that's because I'm not over fifty. Quite a bit younger, in fact. You don't have to live through something to teach about it."

[uchuukitaa]

"Isn't it easier, though?" I ask amiably, shoving my hands in my pockets. "You been teaching long?"

I tap on my steering wheel idly, waiting for Go to come back out of the school. Why does he always get these calls on his day off, damn it?

I frown as I leave the school yet again. I could swear something's going on in there, but somehow I never seem to find anything. Maybe next time.

"How'd it go?" I ask he walks over. Hmmm, he looks confused, I wonder why.

I scratch my head. "I -- I don't think it went very well?" I tell him in a bewildered sort of way. Why don't I remember?

"You don't sound too sure about that," I say dryly, leaning back in my seat. "What happened? Got no-one to talk to or anything?"

He usually manages to get something, it's weird that he's so unsure.

I hate doing these things, I really do. Especially since it's my day off. I never FIND anything at this school.

Ah, there's a new guy. "Sensei? Do you have a moment?"

It takes me a moment to realize I'm being addressed, still not used to being called Sensei, but once I do I turn on my heel, blinking and glancing around.

"Me?" I point to myself, then clear my throat when I realize, yes, this man is talking to me. I bow respectfully. "Lucano-sensei, how may I help you?"

I show my badge, and smile apologetically. "I'm Kamiya. I need to ask you some questions about odd occurrences at this school, Lucano-sensei."

I squint at the badge then blink rapidly, eyes going a little wide before I compose myself. Of course the local authorities would be somewhat involved in the situation at the school, whether they were fully aware of the forces behind it or not.

"Of course," I nod, bowing my head respectfully once more. "I'm not sure how much help I can be though, I only just started here today."

Damn.

"That's fine, sensei. I just need to know if you're aware of the events that occur at this school? The attacks?"

[hinooo]

Gentarou-kun invited me for lunch, so I signed in at the office and now I'm wandering into the school.

"Hey, Ankh," I say affectionately as I pass him.

...

I stop, jaw down to my knees, and take two steps back. "Ankh?"

I hate to admit that I'm a little lost. But I am, one hall looks quite the same as any other. It's alright though, I'm not due to be in my classroom for a little while. Plenty of time to find my way.

It's a moment before I realize I'm being addressed, probably because the man in question - he looks a little old to be a student, but who knows? I'm still not an expert on Earthlings - is calling me by a name I'm not familiar with.

I blink, look behind me, then back at him, pointing to myself after. "Ankh?"

[hinooo]

I take two swift steps towards him, befuddled and worried. "Yes, Ankh! It's me, Eiji. Don't you remember? Why are you dressed like that?"

[beetlesazer]

I blink rapidly at the man, taking a moment to push my glasses up my nose and stammer before finally managing to get proper words out.

"I... I think you might have me confused with someone else. I'm Kane. Kane Lucano. The new history teacher? Though," I glance him once over. "You don't look like a student..."

[hinooo]

"I don't look like a student because I'm not!" bursts out of me, and I take a moment to try to control myself. "And you're not a teacher! Ankh...? Don't you remember me at all?"

It must be because he's human now. It's messing with his memory!
