(OOC- Not sure if anyone aside besides myself has seen Korra, or A:tLA in general, but I guess this is where we find out???)

I got kicked off the Pro Bender team I'd just gotten accepted for. Just because I threw some lightning during the match. Nevermind that's a perfectly valid form of Firebending-- no, apparently it's against some rule no one bothered to tell me.

So, yeah. Currently jobless and homeless in a city that's not exactly known for being especially kind to poor people. But I'm not going back home, so all that's left to do is get back on a team. There's no point in looking for other work. Bending's the one thing I'm actually good at-- I just have to remember to only Firebend next time (at least, until I have words with whoever is in charge of rules).

Actually, you know what? Forget finding a team; I'll make my own team. There are plenty of Benders here. Piece of cake (and of course, my stomach growls on that note, but oh well).

Now I just have to find a Waterbender and a Earthbender.

I don't think I've got a job any more. The other guards drugged me and tried to steal the items for the exhibit, and things didn't go well.

I sigh as I walk, and amuse myself by making clumps of earth dance in the same rhythm as my footsteps. I have my bending, I have a few coins, and I have clean underwear for tomorrow. I'll manage.

He's looking too much of a sob story to be a serious athlete, but beggars can't be choosers, and maybe he'll surprise me. Time to do some talent scouting.

"Hey, there." I get in his path. "That's pretty impressive, with the dirt. Most Earthbenders just toss huge rocks around; you obviously have some sense of control." Pleeeeease work, flattery.

I break into a surprised grin. "That's very kind of you," I say, ducking my head. "But really, I'm not very good. I don't compete or anything. Do you?"

I blink, because I can't tell if he's really astute or really nice, but hey, no point in avoiding the issue. "Yeah-- well, I will. I'm hardly championship material yet, but it puts food on the table." Just guessing from this guy's waistline, but it looks like he could be tempted with the promise of food.

Oh, he *is* a bender. Huh. "Yes, food's good," I say politely. "What type of bending do you do?"

"Fire," I respond promptly, making a little flame in my open palm. "So once we find some grub, I can heat it up." If there's no other choice, I can always steal some food-- from some rich jerk who obviously doesn't need it, of course. Even when I was a kid and was stealing to survive, I had rules.

I blink at him, wondering when we became 'we', but it's nice and I don't actually mind. "I usually just have some fruit if I don't have any money...?" I suggest cautiously.

I nod. "Well, that's fine for you. Provided you have some, of course." I'll settle for fruit, but honestly, I need protein. Maybe I can get some fish...

I nod eagerly. "I have a little? We can share?"

I don't have much, but I should be able to buy us a little bread, at least.

"S-seriously?" I mean, yeah, I've read stories about people helping others when it comes to money and food, but I've never seen it happen in real life. "Um, sure!" I'm all for food, and then maybe I can make my pitch.

"Yes, of course," I say, bemused, but smiling. "It's not much, but I'll share."

I quickly grab him by the arm, vaguely hoping he didn't hear my stomach growl (again). "Well, then, lead the way!" This guy's pretty fluffy for an Earthbender-- not that I'm complaining, since he's offering me food. I'll return the favor, in case any hooligans bother us.

I link arms with him, smiling tentatively, and take him to the nearest bakery.

The old guy selling it doesn't notice us, but that's fine, we don't need to talk until it's time to haggle. "So, what can we afford?"
