THE CAPTIVITY MEME

You've been captured -- or maybe you've been held captive for a while now. Whatever the case, you've lost your freedom, and there's a specific person responsible for that. You might be a prisoner, a mental patient, a kidnap victim, or someone's pet. Maybe you're there willingly, or maybe the choice has been taken away from you completely.

Both smut and non-smut scenarios are possible. If you don't want to play smut, please indicate so in the title line of your tag.

1. Leave a tag with your character. Be sure to include any limits on what you are willing to play, as this meme has the potential to be triggering.
2. Someone else tags in and uses RNG to generate a number between 1 and 9 (or pick your favorite). The second character is holding the first character captive now.

1. For their own good. Does this person really think they could make it on their own? It's a big, scary world out there, and you need to protect them from it, whether they like it or not.

2. For the good of society. Forget protecting this person -- it's your duty to protect the world from them! Maybe they committed a terrible crime, or maybe they were falsely condemned, but it's your job to keep them locked up where they can't do any more harm.

3. Because they're not well. How's your bedside manner? Whether you're Florence Nightingale or Mildred Ratched, you're in the position of ministering to the mentally ill. Maybe this person genuinely needs your help, or maybe you're just turning a blind eye to their true sanity.

4. For the money. Higher aims? What higher aims? This person is your meal ticket, and they're staying put until their loved ones pay up.

5. For their love. It might be a case of yandere, or it might be a consenting BDSM relationship. Whether it's by mutual agreement or by force, you're keeping them simply because you love them.

6. Because they're cute and fluffy. Who's a cutesy wutesy? They are! Yes, they are! This person is your pet now. Maybe they're a different species from you, or maybe you just don't care that you're both people. Maybe you're even an alien zookeeper looking after a new acquisition.

7. Because they're your property. Slave? Livestock? Who cares what they think - they're your property, and you decide their fate.

8. For the lulz. Hey, what's a little bondage between friends? You'll let them go, once you're done laughing and snapping photos... maybe.

We walk out of the base by one of the more public exits, and through the plaza till we reach a small park.

The portal's cordoned off, with EMC guards on duty. The head advises that nothing's come through recently.

It's... bizarre, looking at the portal, at the base of the poor tree that probably won't survive. It's a swirling glimpse into what looks like but probably isn't hyperspace. Just looks wrong.

Horrors come through all sorts of portals, so the distortion at the base of the tree tells me nothing.

I'm well aware of the guards watching me, reminding me that I'm a guest and a prisoner. I wish I had some of my gear, which would make things easier; however, my brush and a spell will have to do.

I trace a Makai character in the air with my brush, using my magic to will it into a form that will detect horrors, and casting it in the direction of the portal. I hope against hope that they're wrong, that it's not Horrors, that these things that I was born to fight haven't come to Sakurada-san's world.

But the green flare tells me I'm wrong. This is a gate for Horrors.

He traces a character in the air with his brush, and the portal turns green.

I raise an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to explain. I don't know how much focus this takes from him, and I don't know if sound affects it, so I won't interrupt until I know it's safe.

I let the spell fade out, and sag a little. "I was hoping it wasn't...."

I don't know how much the rest of his group, this organization, will trust a man who came from nowhere and intruded on EMC grounds twice. I know something has to be done, and it's up to me to fix it. I don't know how long it'll take, but I will do it.

I'm not very happy about it, though.

Damn.

At least this man knows how to fight it, though.

"We'll manage," I say calmly. "With your help. Can we ask for assistance from the people you know? Can you start training people here?"

"Usually Knights work alone, maybe with a Priest for support," I tell him absently. "Either one takes years of training."

This is probably a unique situation. Parallel universes do exist, but it's extremely rare to run into one. Starting up the Knights and Priests here, if they don't exist, might be something I spend the rest of my life doing. I'm going to miss a lot more than Kaoru-san and Kouga-san's wedding.

I try to remember back to when I was trained, as a child. I'd been sent at the same time as Sigma, though we ended up in different groups. I wasn't thrilled about it, because I'd decided to be a Priest at that point, but I'd gone anyway. To be there for Sigma.

"I'd have to see if I have counterparts here." I kind of doubt it, if this is new. But these people wouldn't know a Makai user unless they showed up, brush or sword in hand.

"Years?"

Hell. It makes sense, though, I suppose. It's not as if someone could learn to do what I do, even without the genetic ability, within six weeks.

I nod gravely. "This might be my new home. If I can't close the portal...." I sigh. "They have to be stopped."

I shake my head. "I assume you'll need supplies. And to contact your people. Tell me what you need."

"I'll need to get my belongings back, to start." There's some things I just can't do with only my brush. "I'll have to get supplies, but that's going to be after the others find me again. They might be able to transit back and get me the research materials I need." Assuming I'm allowed to stay. Of couse, the Senate never really activated Rodo, so I'm pretty safe.

"There's some things I can look for to see if you have... a version of my people here." I kind of doubt it, but it's possible. "If there is, I'll do my best to put you in contact with them. If not... I hope that I can find a place to live.

"I'll get authorisation," I say, sighing. "And thank you. I realise this is not your world."

I nod. I don't know how much authority Sakurada-san has, though probably a lot. "It doesn't matter. Even if this isn't my fault or my world, they're still something I have to handle."

I'll find housing. I don't know if EMC wants me on their base. Maybe they'll let me stay long enough to deal with mundane paperwork and find a home.

"All right. Do you need to contact your people now, or do you want to come back to EMC first?" I ask wearily.

I shake my head. "This wasn't exactly a planned visit. I was helping prepare for a wedding of two friends, and...." I'm babbling. "They're going to have to find me and contact me."

Thankfully, if I stay, I won't get a reputation as the Knight Who Kept Being Fished Out Of A Different Dimension. Obviously, something wants me to stay here.

I tchh. "You shouldn't miss the wedding unless there's an actual attack." That's not right. The rest of us have had to miss more than enough normal life.

I nod. I really don't want to miss Kaoru-san and Kouga-san's wedding. "They're getting married tomorrow, and... that should give me time to gather what I need to start working here."

This time, I'll be sure to land off-base, if I can. No need to give Sakurada-san's superiors more heart attacks.

"All right. So. Next steps?" I ask as we start moving. "You need your equipment first or to go home first?"

"I'd rather have my equipment back." I need my sword, and I'd rather get the rest of my gear. Not that I'm not coming back, but I'd rather have it with me just in case I'm needed before someone finds me. "My sword, at least."

I nod. "I can arrange that. I don't know what precautions my superiors will require, but it's obvious that we need your expertise. They won't want to leave you defenceless."

Sakurada-san's remarks remind me that I'm still a prisoner for the moment. At least until someone gets here and gets me home. When I return, I'll be free, on my own. I'll probably have to still work with them, but not as a prisoner. "Thank you."

There's a gate forming in front of us, and I tense a moment. But the only person who comes through is Rekka-san. I relax.

And then I remember I have guards.

A person comes through a distortion in front of us.

I move in front of Leo immediately, weapon out. "Halt," I call. "Who are you?"

Rekka-san looks understandably annoyed. I step forward. "This is one of my people, Sakurada-san," I tell him.

"Ah. Sakurada Hiromu," I say, stepping out from between them. I gesture at the guards to stand down.

Oh, her outfit's similar to his. I see.

"Rekka." She shoots a look at me as if to ask how I get into these kinds of situations. She's got ties for tomorrow's wedding in her hand, and I'm glad once more that I'm not participating that way.

At least the guards have stopped pointing guns at her.

"Sakurada-san was helping me get my gear back. Apparently, Horrors have found their way here."

Her eyes are full of questions, but I know she'll wait until we're home to interrogate me.
