Thirteen years ago... (Mushverse, open to Go-Busters)

It's nearly eleven. I need to go to bed, but there's just one more report to finish.

I sigh, pat my pocket to check they're there, and start making my weary way towards the fire escape to the roof. I'll take a break first. There's only a skeleton crew around and a few other fools like me, working late when they need to start early in the morning, but I can't exactly light up in here.

"Non!" I shoot Ryuuji-san a petulant little glare. Didn't I tell him? "We are staying here tonight. Maman et Papa et Etienne are all asleep in my parent's offices."

My eyes flick between Kuroki-san and Jin-san curiously. They seem particularly familiar with one another tonight. It reminds me of my parents, and I make a mental note to ask in the morning.

I sigh a little bit and scuff my toe along the roof. "I will go back now, if you're all going to work. It would be rude of me to intrude."

Why is Emi glaring at me? He'll be all sullen now and impossible to talk to. I bet he won't even bother to say goodbye in the morning. Still, he'll have forgotten all about it next time he comes back.

"C'mon, Emi. I'll take you back." It's easier if I go with him, whether he likes it or not. Sempai and Kuroki-san have work to do.

"I, uh," my voice is all gravelly, all relaxed due to coming so hard I nearly forgot my own name. I make an attempt to harrumph, to straighten my posture. "It wouldn't be right to leave you alone like that. I'll walk you back. Come on, children."

I squint up at Kuroki-san, then try for a smile. He's always so gruff, I assume he doesn't like children much, but generally I don't like to consider myself a child. And Ryuuji-san is certainly not a child. He's a teenager, after all.

"That's fine. It is late, though, Kuroki-san, will you not be sleeping?"
