I stare down at myself: at the gloves on my hands, at everything. It's weird looking at them through a helmet, though, and I can't tell what animal this is supposed to be, except that it's a bird.

Oh like hell is he running. I pull out my Hawk Blaster and take aim.

hm, Yousuke, mebbe?! Ryu's also a hawk but hell if I remember his weapon's name, lol

I grin grimly as I roll back to my feet to see Katsumi with his blaster. I follow suit with my Lion Blaster.

Red guy dodges, tchhing angrily at us.

I was thinking maybe Shane, which is almost the same. >.> Oh well.

Woah, that's one hell of a recoil. I wasn't ready for that one but next time I will be.

Fourze appears, helping with the last of the Buglers.

Red guy's gone.

I drop my henshin, because if Gentarou doesn't know who *I* am by now, he should, anyway, and bounce over to Katsumi.

The suit disappears and takes the adrenaline rush with it. My head spins for a moment with the disorientation, then I pull myself together as Jou makes his way over.

"That was great," I tell him, leaning all over him to stay upright. "Why didn't I know you were making another one of those?"

I grin, getting an arm around him. "Easy, there. Because it was a surprise, though I was kiiiinda hoping not to have to bust it out during battle. You okay? Any idea who that was?"

"Noooo clue," I tell him, still giddy from the exhilaration of it all and grinning like a fool. "He said he was investigating, though, if that helps."

My eyebrows go up. "There are a few groups around at the moment. I'll look into it."

...damn, he's cute.

Gentarou comes racing up, dropping his henshin as well. "Sentai?" he asks, looking between us. I nod with relief. There are times when he's so appallingly stupid that I despair of him ever graduating, but there are times when he's actually very intelligent and quick.

Hee, yes.

"I thought he was like you at first," I say, gradually getting myself together and peeling myself off him, giving him an apologetic look. "It was only after I was already in front of him I realised he wasn't. I wasn't deliberately putting myself in harm's way."

I remember the Volt days and the attendent lecturers way too vividly for that. Even if I'm not that helpless child anymore.

I keep a steadying hand on him just in case, because I remember what it was like the first few times I did it, and I nod. "It's okay. I haven't seen a bad guy suit like that before, either. He looked like someone from a previous team."

No idea who, but I'll look it up.

"What if it is?" I ask, rubbing at my cheek absently. "Someone from a previous team, I mean. What do we do then?"

Touching his face again. I don't know if it's a Risan thing or what.

I shrug. "Contact his team. Try to find out what happened," I say quietly. "If his team's any good anyway they should be on his trail."

"So we keep an eye out for even more strange people, right?" I ask rhetorically. "Like maybe the new transfer students?"

We're getting a lot of those lately and there's definitely something off about them.

I nod, not that he needs the confirmation there. "Yeah, some teams are better than others about keeping undercover."

Gentarou grins. "Like the Go-Busters?"

Oh, is that who they are? Although if even Gentarou knows who they are I should pay more attention. "Yeah, them. You think he's connected to them somehow?"

"I think it's likely," Gentarou says soberly. "We've had some weird groups here before but yeah, they're kinda similar."

"Thematically aligned," I agree.

I sigh and lean against a conveniently handy wall. "Why here, though? What is it about this school that attracts all of them?"

He has to know, what are the odds of him coming to teach here without knowing?

"Cosmic energy. The Zodiarts. All that," I tell him promptly. "I know bits and pieces beyond that, but that has to be the main cause."

Gentarou's nodding. "The Switches are really powerful, Katsumi, and the Horoscopes are getting worse." He actually looks crestfallen for an instant, but then manages a grin.

"Cosmic energy?" Sounds kind of familiar. Not something I've learnt in school but maybe it's something I heard at home at some point. It'll come to me.

"Yeah, it sounds like hokum, but so does birdonic energy and a billion other things," I say dryly.

I grin at that. Most of those ridiculous sounding things have turned out to work just fine. "Soooo, what does it do, this cosmic energy? Something to do with the Switches?"

It could be powering them, I guess.

"Something like that," I agree, but Gentarou breaks into a grin.

"You guys should talk to Kengo. He knows all about this."

I give him a dubious look. "Isn't Utahoshi always in the infirmary, though?"

I mean, I know they hang out and they're all part of the same club but... really?
